Initiative
Kota Kita initiated the project with a visit to the office and workshop of Difabike, a three-wheeled motorcycle taxi service in Yogyakarta, and Universitas Sarjanawiyata Tamansiswa. Separately, we also visited Lambung Mangkurat University, represented by the Wasaka team.

Kota Kita, together with local partner Kaki Kota, kicked off the Inclusive Mobility as New Economy project in Banjarmasin attended by various stakeholders including Difabike, Wasaka team, Universitas Lambung Mangkurat, Department of Transportation, and Regional Police of Banjarmasin.

Kota Kita, Difabike, and Kaki Kota engaged Disabled People Organisations (DPOs) in Banjarmasin to share about the inclusive mobility project and to include their experiences of living with disabilities in the project.

During November to December 2019, Kota Kita and local partner, Kaki Kota, conducted assessment for potential candidates who would later test and use the retrofitted three-wheeled motorcycle.
November - December 2019
Wasaka team from Lambung Mangkurat University, MAN 2 Model Banjarmasin and SMK NU Banjarmasin began developing the prototype in the MAN 2 Model Banjarmasin workshop.
January - March 2020
In June 2020, the motorcycle retrofit process was continued by MAN 2 Model Banjarmasin and SMK NU Banjarmasin, following the COVID-19 health protocols.
June - July 2020
The technical team from MAN2 and SMK NU Banjarmasin conducted the first test drive of the three-wheeled motorcycle prototype.
August 2020
The technical team in Banjarmasin conducted a test drive with potential drivers to assess the modified parts to meet their needs.

The technical team in Yogyakarta conducted a test drive to assess the modified parts to meet the potential driver’s needs.

The technical team continued the retrofitting process of the three-wheeled motorcycle, supervised by Difabike and Kota Kita via online through bi-weekly regular meetings.
January - September 2021
The technical team conducted a test drive with a selected group of drivers who would later use the prototype, supervised by a professional driver.
March 2021 - now
Kota Kita, together with Kaki Kota organized a hybrid workshop of sharing sessions from Difabike on safe riding skills and etiquettes with drivers in Banjarmasin.
September 2021
Kota Kita, together with local partner Kaki Kota introduced Modifa to DPOs in Banjarmasin and organized hybrid sharing sessions with professional drivers. Modifa is a community-based platform established for three-wheeled motorcycle ridesharing in Banjarmasin, with the hope of sustainability in empowering drivers and passengers with disabilities.
