Coordination Meeting and ideation: Waste Management

In July 2020, the community-led waste management initiative started with a coordination meeting with stakeholders.
Kota Kita, Urban+ Institute, and Kaki Kota discussed the idea to develop integrated waste management in Gadang with the involvement of the neighborhood's residents.

Craft making pre-training to promote recycling: RT 16, Gadang

A key part of community-led management is promoting waste recycling to the community.
To initiate the Craft-making Training, LK3 and STIEI conducted a pre-training session with the mothers of RT 16 Gadang to design the activity according to participants’ needs and aspirations.

Replicating the process in RT 16, the LK3 team also organized the pre-training meeting to design the coming engagement in RT 01 Gadang.

Workshop on collecting used cooking oil

Used cooking oil was identified as a common household waste in Gadang that is mismanaged. To promote a more sustainable practice for used cooking oil waste, Kota Kita and the LK3 team invited women and mothers from RT 12 and RT 16 to a workshop to discuss and develop a collective system.
The initiative intended to raise participants’ awareness to collect oil waste while developing added value economically and environmentally to their community.

Community Hub co-design workshop in RT 12 Gadang

During the process, it was identified that there was a lack of gathering space to support community activities.
In June 2021, Kota Kita kicked off the community hub co-design process with a design consultation workshop with the residents to further facilitate a community-led waste management system in Gadang.

In August 2021, Kota Kita, Kaki Kota, and several representatives of residents discussed and agreed on the design of the community hub building.

The community hub remodelling began with a participatory design activity to involve residents and increase a sense of ownership in the neighborhood.

The construction of the upgraded Community Hub is on-going and will soon be prepared to support community social activities in the neighborhood.
